About Accutane

Otherwise known as isotretinoin, Accutane is a prescription acne treatment that is primarily prescribed in only the most severe of cases. Accutane claims to eliminate excess oils, fighting bacteria, and supposedly fighting even the toughest cases of adult acne vulgaris, acne conglobata, and other rare and severe forms of acne.

Accutane uses a concentrated form of vitamin A, more severe, and some would even say toxic than other prescriptions like retinol. It was the first acne pill, and many products continue to mimic it, or at least they claim to provide you with an alternative to Accutane. But what should you know about Accutane?

Rate of Use

While Accutane claims to be the most effective acne treatment for severe acne, it is rarely prescribed or used. Actually, most try to avoid Accutane if they can! They use Accutane as a last resort. And most doctors will not prescribe Accutane unless patients have already tried and failed with everything else. But even if you think you have tried everything else, doctors still make you jump through hoops to get a prescription for Accutane.
