What is Accutane?
Otherwise known as isotretinoin, Accutane is a prescription acne treatment used only in severe cases. It is a form of vitamin A, reducing the amount of oil released my oil glands in your skin, and it helps the skin to reproduce new skin cells and therefore heal itself at a more efficient rate. Accutane has been known to work when nothing else does, because it is extremely powerful.
What Ingredients are in Accutane?
However, it can cause severe side effects including birth defects, depression, sleep problems, aggression, hallucinations, thoughts of suicide, blurred vision, vomiting, seizures, severe pain in the stomach, etc. Some have also complained that it didn't work, only drying and irritating skin and even worsening existing acne. It is definitely not for the faint of heart, and women cannot take it without joining a program called iPledge and using definite birth control. Others with certain background or history cannot take it at all.
What Else Should I Know about Accutane?
Accutane is truly a last resort, if even that. It can be effective for some individuals. But we have found those individuals to be few and far between. It comes with severe side effects and limitations, and the drug interactions are also severe. Even at last resort, Accutane should not be taken without serious consideration or other options.
